The often-repeated claim that AO gives 5% through Health Service Discounts could not be verified, so the Blue Light Card code is the route to rely on.
When the Code Makes the Most Difference
A fixed amount off a minimum spend works best on a single large purchase. On a £600 washing machine, £25 off is roughly 4%, while on a £1,000 American-style fridge freezer the same £25 is only 2.5%, so on bigger orders an AO sale price or a retailer that takes a percentage off can do better. Comparing the basket total with the code against the price at another Blue Light Card partner settles it.

Currys gives members a code as well as discounted Shopping Cards, John Lewis sells discounted Shopping Cards and matches prices from named rivals, and Argos cards can be bought through Blue Light Card too. On a big-ticket appliance, pricing the same model across all four is the surest way to the lowest total.
