McDonald’s has run a 20% discount for NHS staff through its app since July 2021, but it has always been a promotion with an end date rather than a permanent scheme. It has closed and been renewed several times, most recently reported as running into 2026, so whether it is live on a given day is something the app confirms rather than anything a third-party page can guarantee.
McDonald’s does not take Blue Light Card, either at the counter or in the app, which leaves an NHS email address as the only way in.
How the Offer Has Worked
Staff register in the My McDonald’s app with an NHS email address, or switch an existing account over to one in the settings, and the deal appears in the Deals section roughly 48 hours later. In past rounds it has applied across the whole menu, could be used once a week with a reset each Monday, and excluded a small number of restaurants, including some inside supermarkets. Earlier versions were also opened to police, fire, armed forces and social care staff.
Outside the NHS promotion, the app’s everyday deals and its rewards points are open to every customer regardless of the email address on the account.
Nando’s, which takes 20% off for NHS staff showing a valid NHS ID, is the steadier option for anyone who wants a discount that does not depend on a campaign being renewed.
